OR & Critical Care Areas in Health Care Facilities
Isolated Power System Test & Certifications
CE Systems offers regular scheduled and routine Test and
Certifications of Isolated Power Monitors and systems
for hospitals and other health care facilities.
Trained and qualified technicians will inspect the existing
installation for insulation resistance values and potential
differences to the reference grounding bus in the equipment per NFPA
99.
All Test Reports and Certifications are documented and bound for
your records.
Why is it important to test and document the certification of your
isolated power systems?
Your authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), such as the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of
Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), will require written verification
of testing performance
and certifications. Failure to comply is a violation of Federal Law
and can result in fines or

other
administrative orders.
Because an
isolated power system (IPS) provides an equal
and effective means of electrical
safety for the patient and personnel in health care facilities, it
is important to ensure these
special systems are fully functional and operating in accordance to
listed standards.
An isolated
power system is utilized as a protection means in wet procedure
locations and in areas that utilize flammable anesthetics. These
special systems operate ungrounded, and must be monitored. This
protection technique is required in such areas as ORs and other
critical care areas because interruption of power by ground-fault
circuit interrupters cannot be tolerated.
Testing of the
IPS in conjunction with confirming the assured grounding systems are
in tact and within acceptable levels is crucial to preventing
serious illnesses and even death.
